This goes back to the time when Officers had a distinguishing colour between the Gold braid in the sleeves of their uniforms.

The Electrical Officer having Dark Green. This practice was discontinued in the mid 1950’s but the ‘handle’ still sticks, all be it to the lesser degree these days.
