NEWSLETTER NUMBER 1

Membership Lists - Reunion - Volunteers - Webmaster - Archivist - Welfare -

Area Group Organisers - Publicity - Slops - Navy News - What now

At last I hear you say.

Dear shipmates

Well lots of things are and have happened so I am in a position to tell you all and answer some of your questions. First thank you for your words of support. Second thank you for your cheques and donations. As I said before, these are all recorded and the Treasurer will deal with them all, when we get one. Any suitable volunteers?

Membership Lists. No doubt you have scanned these before you have even got this far!! I have already seen some shipmates who will be spending some happy hours lamp swinging!! Unable to find yourself? Look at the address label on the envelope. Behind your name is a number. That is the number of your membership list and the list itself is numbered in the top left hand corner.

When writing, e-mailing or telephoning please quote your list number if I have to refer to your entry. I did try to list E-mail addresses, but there are two things which prevented it,

1) The addresses in some cases were too long and 2) E-mail addresses change, I have had some change already, so I have stayed with Telephone numbers for contact. Check your entry. Is it how you want it? Is your telephone number there? Does your favourite draft appear? Please let me know as soon as possible before any more membership lists go out. Don’t forget, the membership lists are for you to find your old shipmates.

Reunion. Our first! Please find enclosed a booking form for our first reunion and the Inaugural General Meeting. This will be the opportunity to get the Association well and truly launched and when we can steam ahead. Isle of Wight Tours is a company well used to organising Naval Reunions so I know we are in good hands. Yes wives and partners are more than welcome.

Volunteers for positions in the Association. Thank you very much for coming forward. Who said ‘never volunteer’????

Webmaster ‘Shiner’ Wright on List 1 has said he will make a web site for us. Nothing fancy which frightens people off, but one which is easy for all to use. Thanks Shiner. Leave it to you. Shiner has checked up on a couple of suitable available names.

Archivist Dennis Coombes also on List 1 has volunteered as Archivist. What will we want? Anything to do with the Electrical Branch which can be put on display at our Reunions. I have had a company write to me who supplied some of the very early Gen Sets. 1st World War Gen Sets and they have sent pictures!!!!

Welfare David Theed on List 3 is an approved SSAFA Forces Help Case Worker and has been so since 1988. I feel sure we have the right person in David

Area Group Organisers

I would like to thank the following for stepping forward and hope that you will support them in getting groups up and running in your areas. Another Association I am associated with has well over a dozen groups over the UK and one group in particular has social meetings with up to 100 attending. Another has about 20. A lot of work but with a lot of volunteers in the groups, very rewarding and these in themselves generate more members when local newspapers give reports and pictures.

Scotland Jock Crawford List 1

Jersey Graham Toudic also List 1

USA Peter Redgrave List 2

S.E.Essex and East London Alan Edwards List 3 based on 10 mile radius of Hornchurch

Web update May 2007 - Australia Mike Bennet, Berwick, Victoria

Any more? If you want help or guidance, drop me a line.

Publicity I have volunteered for that job, but if anyone would like to do it, jump in.

If you have any ideas on publicity then drop me a line with contacts. 01983 404727 or mikeATrneba.org.uk or mobile if its urgent but don’t forget I might be driving, or as often happens when the phone rings, …………. on the loo!!

Green Leaflets. Please find enclosed some more. There is a change. I have put my telephone number and E-mail address on them in the hope that it will catch a few more, so please change those you have put up already, ……………. or put more up.

Slops Thanks to Joe Erskine (List 1) we have a superb Blazer Badge and when I announced this before, quite a few said ‘More details please’ and some said ‘What about a tie or a beret badge?’ Well, it’s your Association, so we have Blazer Badges, Ties and Cap or Beret Badges.

Blazer Badge Gold Woven with Green Backed Scroll “R.N. Electrical Branch Association” in Gold at £10.00 [ picture is here ]

Association Tie with badge woven in £10.00

Cap or Beret Badge £5.00

Send your order to me and please make your cheques payable to the R.N.E.B.A where we have our own account.

Navy News A few of you have said that it would be a good idea to have an entry in Navy News. I have tried, twice, but there seems to be a back log and as we did not have an actual reunion organised, there was no hope of getting into that section. However, we have now, so I will Percy Veer as they say. I also propose to get onto Service Pals and write to such magazines as ‘Yours’, but first had to establish that we had an Association. Your support proves we have, thank you.

H.M.S. Collingwood. A Field Gun Run Day is held every year and it is featured as a ‘Family’s Day’. About 8 Field Gun Teams competing for various trophies, Amusements for the kids, Hot Dog and Beer Tents and all sorts of attractions making it an ideal day out for the Family. I have applied for a stand there to give the Association a public airing. If you live in the area and would like to help out on the stand, give me a call.

Regret I am unable to get the Family in so it only suitable for you if you are on your own. Security is tight, but I know the routine to get you a pass and car pass. Look forward to seeing you if you drop by if they give me a stand. If you remember where Howe Gym was near Howe Galley, well it’s there, in a big marquee!

Web update May 2007 - The proposed HMS Collingwood display by RNEBA has been cancelled due to cost of an indoor stand

So what now? Over to you. What else do you want? I would like to see a volunteer to produce a Newsletter, nothing fancy, a typed page photocopied to let the members know what is going on!! If you have a computer with more fancy facilities then that would be even better. All expenses paid so you won’t be out of pocket.

Or, do we have a subscription and put a newsletter in the hands of a local printer? It will cost and I feel sure that just as other Associations have a ‘volunteer’, I am certain we have one in this Association.

Once again thanks for your support. What do you want of the Association and me now?

See you in Bournemouth. Please forward items for the Agenda.

Best wishes to you all

Mike
